AI Agents & Automation
Autonomous agents that plan, call tools, and finish multi-step work. Built to run unattended, recover from failure, and report what they did.
I'm Sergiu Vataman — an AI engineer crafting autonomous agents, custom skills, and the tooling around them. I design RAG systems that retrieve, reason, and act, turning frontier models into software that does real work.
Twelve years of craft, now forged into AI.
The Viking Company began as a web studio in Bucharest — a decade and more of shipping software across Europe. Not just brand sites and e-commerce, but the high-stakes kind: national public procurement, border tolling, internal taxation systems where downtime and error simply aren't options. The obsession was always the same — build things that are usable, dependable, and made to last.
Today that obsession points at a new horizon. I build the agents, skills, and retrieval systems that let teams put frontier models to real work — reliably, observably, and in production. RAG pipelines that stay grounded. Automations that run unattended. Tooling that extends what a model can reach.
Same Norse stubbornness about quality. New waters.

Autonomous agents that plan, call tools, and finish multi-step work. Built to run unattended, recover from failure, and report what they did.
Custom skills and tool integrations that extend what an agent can reach — bespoke APIs, browser and filesystem control, internal systems.
Retrieval-augmented generation done properly: chunking, embeddings, hybrid search, rerankers, and evals that keep answers grounded in your data.
Wiring frontier models — Claude, GPT, and open weights — into products with clean APIs, structured outputs, streaming, and guardrails.
A decade of front- and back-end craft — from national public-sector platforms to e-commerce. Angular, React, Next.js, Node.js, WordPress.
GitLab CI/CD pipelines, hosting, and observability — release automation, monitoring, and the unglamorous work that keeps high-stakes systems alive in production.
Full-stack engineering on specific modules and business flows of Romania's national electronic public-procurement platform — UI/UX design through to back-end services, with the front-end functionality those workflows demand. Built for uptime, data integrity, and audit at national scale.

View codeWhere it started. NERVA was a government-funded Romanian R&D program developing a homegrown platform to launch satellites into orbit — a decommissioned rocket vehicle re-engineered toward horizontal orbital flight at 160 km, proven by live test-stand firings. I built telemetry modules for the vehicle: my first real lesson in systems where the data has to be exactly right.
